GRE

IELTS TEST

The GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) is a standardized test that is commonly required by most graduate schools in the United States as part of their admissions process. It serves as an assessment tool to evaluate the abilities of graduate school applicants in various academic tasks, irrespective of their specialized field. The purpose of the GRE is to gauge the level of verbal and quantitative skills, as well as abstract thinking, that individuals have developed during their undergraduate education.

The Educational Testing Service (ETS) is responsible for creating and administering the GRE. This exam measures skills in verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking that have been acquired over an extended period and are not specific to any particular field of study. The GRE General Test is conducted in a computer-based format at designated Prometric testing centers.

The computer-based GRE General Test consists of six sections. The first section is always the analytical writing section, with separate timed tasks for issues and arguments. The remaining five sections consist of two verbal reasoning sections, two quantitative reasoning sections, and one experimental or research section. The order of these five sections may vary for different test-takers. The experimental section does not contribute to the final score but is indistinguishable from the scored sections.

The entire testing process typically lasts around 3 hours and 45 minutes. One-minute breaks are provided after each section, and a 10-minute break is given after the third section.

Additionally, there are GRE Subject Tests available in specific subject areas, including Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Literature in English, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology. These subject tests assess knowledge in those respective fields and have a duration of 170 minutes each.

Please note that the fees for the GRE may change over time. For the most up-to-date information, it is advisable to visit the official website at www.ets.org/gre.
